GSF HR team gives new volunteering benefit run-out at Chester foodbank

Team members sort food deliveries for families in need at Cheshire West and Chester foodbank

GSF Car Parts recently launched an exciting new volunteering benefit for all Team Members and while we were preparing the scheme, some members of our HR team did a great trial run at the Cheshire West and Chester foodbank.

The trio helped out in December’s Christmas rush, volunteering between 9am-2pm, sorting food deliveries into categories and by expiry order, before transferring them to food parcels being packed for families in need.

Talent Lead Rhiannon Cooper said: “The time we spent there went so quickly and having the opportunity to really get involved and give something back to our local community felt very rewarding.

“The amount of donations from local businesses and the general public was incredible, their deliveries didn’t stop.

“I would love to go back and help them out throughout the year and not just at Christmas.”

HR Administrator Leanne Burton said: “It was so interesting to see how this amazing facility operates.

“It is definitely an eye-opener to how much people are struggling in the current climate, and I really think everyone should volunteer at a local foodbank at some point in their lives to get a true understanding of what can so easily be taken for granted.

“Not only was it educational, but it was also very rewarding – and tiring.”

HR Manager Shannon Enright added: “It felt really rewarding to be able to help others and they were so appreciative to have three extra hands to support, as a lot of the volunteers are semi-retirees and can only do a few hours as a time.

“I’ve since made a conscious effort to make sure when doing my weekly shop I buy some extra items for the foodbank.”
