The British star’s third Speedway GP win in less than a year

British Speedway star Dan Bewley – who is sponsored by NGK – has raced to a dramatic victory at the Holmgrens Bil FIM Speedway GP of Sweden – Malilla.

The Cumbrian snatched his third Speedway GP win in less than a year after passing Martin Vaculik at the end of lap three of the final, finishing ahead of the second-placed Slovak star and Poland’s Patryk Dudek in third.

NGK-stablemate Freddie Lindgren was at the top of the heat score chart but was disqualified from the final after colliding with race leader Vaculik, bringing the race to stop, but fortunately walked away without suffering serious injury.

Bewley took full advantage in the re-run and his victory comes just days after he suffered a heavy fall of his own while racing for British club Belle Vue in a Sports Insure Premiership match at Wolverhampton on Monday.

Bewley was delighted to add to his Cardiff and Wroclaw wins from August 2022, saying: “This week I did not expect this result at all. It has been such a tough week, but we kept working and here we are. We got stuck in.

”This actually feels a little bit different to the GPs I won last year. I didn’t make the start in the final. I had to work for it. It has been hard work all week and sometimes it’s a little different when you have to work harder.”

Bewley is now in sixth place in the championship on 69 points, while Lindgren is in second position on 82 points. Fellow NGK-backed Britons Robert Lambert is in eighth place in the championship on 63 points after making the semi-final stage in Sweden with three-time World champion Tai Woffinden in ninth position after scoring just five points in Malilla.

John Money, field sales representative for Niterra, home of NGK spark plugs, added: “It was a remarkable victory by Dan after his crash earlier in the week and a great achievement to win his third SGP. Freddie too was in fine form and thankfully was not seriously injured after suffering such a heavy crash.”

The Speedway GP series now takes a pause for the much-anticipated return of the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup in Polish city Wroclaw from July 25-29, featuring the NGK-sponsored Great Britain team.
