Drunk man who drove car with two missing tyres is banned

Police officers spotted sparks coming from drink-driver’s Astra

A man who drove a car with two missing tyres while drunk has been banned from driving for 14 months.

Paulius Krasausauskas was driving a Vauxhall Astra when he stopped by police on the A142 at Soham in September. Officers were shocked to discover that the car had two missing tyres, which caused one alloy wheel to create sparks as it was scraping along the road.

A roadside breath test showed Krasausauskas had 65 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35. He went on to blow 50 in custody.

Sergeant Andrew Owen, who investigated, said: “This case demonstrates the serious impairment alcohol has on a person’s ability to drive safely.

“Thankfully no other road users were affected by his decision to drive that morning in a vehicle not fit for purpose.”

At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court he pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified from driving for 14 months.
