Gary Hillier will spend four months behind bars

A garage owner from Norfolk has been jailed after being caught drink-driving for the third time in three years.

Gary Hillier, owner of Hillier Autos, was arrested on 31 July for being five times over the legal limit. This followed a separate offence four months ago when he was found to be four times over the limit after a collision in Diss.

Norwich Magistrates Court heard how, three years earlier, Mr Hillier had been banned from driving for 34 months, but this was reduced by nine months after he decided to attend a drink-driving rehabilitation course.

David Foulks, mitigating, told the court: “He has used alcohol as a crutch because of his personal issues and money worries. He has now finally recognised he has a significant problem.”

Mr Hillier was jailed for 16 weeks, banned from driving for the maximum of five years, and ordered to take an extended driving test before being allowed back on the road.
