Tim Ward of NGK to embark on charity cycle ride

Rugby League fan to ride 200 miles to raise money for those involved in the sport

Rugby League supporter Tim Ward, of NGK, is taking part in a charity cycle ride to raise funds for those involved in the sport.

The Leeds Rhinos fan is to undertake a 200-mile route on September 24-26 to raise funds for Rugby League Cares, which is dedicated to supporting the Rugby League family and its local communities.

On day one of the RL Cares UK Red Great North Ride, Tim and fellow riders will cover 75 miles from Whitehaven along the Solway Firth for an overnight stay in Carlisle. The route on the second day follows the historic Reivers Way for 70 miles along the England-Scotland border and through Kielder Forest to Bellingham, while on the third and final day the ride heads south to link up with the Hadrian’s Wall cycleway on a 60-mile trip to the east coast, a total of 200 miles.

Tim, who is Deputy General Manager – Key Accounts, for NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said: “I have not missed a season as a Rugby League supporter on the terrace since 1994. I have seen the commitment of those who love and play the sport and how they may be finding it tough when they finish the game through injury or retirement. The money raised helps to make a difference to their quality of life.”

Rugby League Cares work focuses on four key areas; welfare, benevolent fund, grants and heritage, and strives to nurture the past, present and future of the game.
